RORO and ro-ro are acronyms of the term Roll On / Roll Off, a type of ferry, boat or ship carrying wheeled cargo such as automobiles, trucks or trains. RORO containers often have ramps built on the boat or on land still to download the cargo (roll off) and load (roll on) the boat from the port. In contrast, the containers lo-lo (lift on-lift off, like, raise and lower) need a crane to load and unload cargo.

While smaller ferries that operate across rivers and other short distances have ramps included therein, the term RORO is generally reserved for containers that do routes that cross oceans. Usually ships carrying new cars around the world are Røros. These vessels are often called Pure Car Carriers (PCC) or Pure Car Truck Carriers (PCTCs), that is specifically designed to carry cargo of cars and trucks. The PCC's largest service today is the MV Mignon, which is owned and operated by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines of Sweden, can carry about 7,200 cars.
